CPCB Norms for Biomass Pellet Plants — APCD Sizing

Published 2026-04-15Updated 2026-05-275 min readBy D Sharma

Air Pollution Control Devices (APCDs) on biomass pellet plants are sized against three variables: stack volume (m³/min), particulate load at inlet (g/Nm³), and target outlet concentration (the CPCB norm for the stack class). For paddy-straw plants in Punjab, the inlet particulate load is high because of the fines fraction from hammer-mill grinding.

Our standard APCD is a pulse-jet bag filter, 4126 × 2360 × 3625 mm in MS heavy-gauge construction, with automatic pulse cleaning. The pulse-jet cycle is sized to keep filter-cake differential pressure within design range (typically 100–150 mmWC) across an 18-hour shift. Filter media is replaceable on a planned schedule; replacement bags are a stock item on the spare-parts catalogue.

Sizing for a non-standard plant — say, a 5 TPH multi-line plant with a mixed hammer-mill / dryer dust profile — requires a custom calculation against your stack volume. Send us your plant DCS layout and we'll dimension the APCD against your specific configuration.

On the documentation side, CPCB Consent to Operate (CTO) applications require an APCD specification sheet, a process flow diagram showing dust capture points, and a quality-control plan for filter-media replacement. We supply all three at no charge for our customers' CTO applications.
