Glossary · Biomass pellet industry
Every acronym, defined.
APCD, MNRE, CPCB, NTPC, TPH, kcal/kg — the working vocabulary of the biomass pellet industry, defined in plain English for buyers, journalists and engineering teams new to the sector.
A–Z glossary
- APCD
- Air Pollution Control Device. In a biomass pellet plant the APCD is the pulse-jet bag filter that captures dust and particulates from grinding, drying and pelletising before the stack.
- BIS
- Bureau of Indian Standards. The national standards body whose specifications biomass machinery is often designed to align with.
- CBG
- Compressed Biogas — purified biogas at >90% methane, used as a transport and industrial fuel. Pellet plants and CBG plants share many feedstocks.
- CPCB
- Central Pollution Control Board, India. Sets ambient air quality and stack emission norms that biomass APCDs are sized to meet.
- Centrifugal pellet machine
- A ring-die press in which rollers force ground biomass through extrusion channels arranged radially around a cylindrical die. The 8th-Gen Centrifugal Pellet Machine is the flagship of our line.
- Flash dryer
- Pneumatic dryer that drops moisture content of ground biomass in a single thermal pass (≤25% inlet to ~12% outlet). Sized in TPH and kW.
- Hammer mill
- Industrial grinder used upstream of the pellet press to break biomass to a uniform particle size. Our standard hammer mill is 173 kW, 5 TPH.
- HSN
- Harmonised System of Nomenclature. The product-classification code used in Indian GST invoicing. Biomass pellet machinery typically ships under 84799090, 84371000 and 84194010.
- IGP
- Indo-Gangetic Plain. The agricultural belt — Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar — that generates the bulk of India's paddy and wheat residue.
- kcal/kg
- Kilocalories per kilogram — the calorific value of a fuel. Well-formed paddy-straw pellets typically deliver 4,000–4,500 kcal/kg.
- MNRE
- Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. Publishes financial-support frameworks for paddy-straw pelletisation and torrefaction plants.
- NTPC
- NTPC Limited — India's largest power generator. Its biomass-cofiring tenders are a primary off-take channel for biomass pellets.
- Paddy straw / parali
- The straw residue left after paddy harvest. Punjab generates ~19.52 Mt annually (state estimate to NGT, 2024); the primary feedstock for our pellet line.
- Pellet die / ring die
- The wear-part through which ground biomass is extruded under 5–7 kg/cm² pressure to form pellets. Yulong-pattern dies are stocked ex-works at ₹1,00,000 per piece, MOQ 5.
- PM2.5
- Particulate matter ≤2.5 µm. CEEW and CPCB studies attribute up to 58% of Delhi winter PM2.5 to stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana.
- Roller shell
- The hardened sleeve that fits over the pellet-press roller and presses biomass through the ring die. A consumable wear part on our 96-SKU catalogue.
- TPH
- Tonnes per hour — the throughput unit for biomass machinery. Our 8th-Gen pellet machine runs at 1.5–2 TPH; the hammer mill and flash dryer at 5 TPH.
- Three-stage gear deceleration
- The gearbox architecture used in the 8th-Gen Centrifugal Pellet Machine, with integrated lubricating-cooling for continuous-duty operation at 160 kW.
- Y35 magnet
- A grade of ferrite magnet used in our 3-ft over-band magnetic separator to remove tramp iron upstream of the hammer mill and pellet press.
