Punjab is India’s densest paddy-producing state — and India’s densest paddy-residue problem. The state told the National Green Tribunal in 2024 that it would generate 19.52 million tonnes of paddy straw, with 12.7 Mt managed on-field and 5.96 Mt off-site via industrial energy plants. That off-site share is the volume our machines are designed to consume.
Studies from CEEW and CPCB attribute up to 58% of Delhi’s winter PM2.5 to stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana. CPCB deployed 26 monitoring teams across 16 Punjab and 10 Haryana districts in the October–November 2024 window. The policy direction is clear: every tonne that gets pelletised is a tonne that doesn’t get burnt.
The economics work too. Field-edge paddy straw is typically ₹2–4 per kg; pelletised, it sells at ₹6–11 per kg as a 4,000+ kcal/kg coal-displacing fuel. Pelletmachine.in cites operator earning potential of ₹8–10 lakh per month for properly sized plants on Punjab feedstock costs.
Punjab generates approximately 19.52 million tonnes of paddy straw annually (state estimate to NGT, 2024), of which 5.96 Mt is earmarked for off-site industrial and energy use. The feedstock economics work: at field-edge prices of ₹2–4 per kg, a properly sized pellet plant turns residue into a 4,000+ kcal/kg fuel that displaces coal. Add MNRE/CPCB financial-support frameworks and a Delhi NCR demand sink for clean industrial fuel, and the geography is unusually favourable.
